Before I get started, let me provide some context.
For several years—as far back as I can remember, actually—I have used Google Analytics. I have been building websites since 2006 and have encouraged others to do the same.
Google has traditionally felt trustworthy and, with a few exceptions, there wasn’t a legitimate alternative for tracking website visitors.
Below is an honest review of Fathom Analytics.
After giving it a read, you’ll understand why I made the switch from Google Analytics. Hint: Fathom is lightweight, easy to use, and most importantly, protects the privacy of your website visitors.
What is Fathom Analytics?
Fathom is a simple, lightweight, privacy-first alternative to Google Analytics. It’s a website analytics tool that provides basic reporting and does not collect personal information about your visitors.
The Fathom dashboard displays simple metrics such as website visits, page views, content, referrals, device type, browse, and country. Users can create goals, which include conversion rates, completions, and value.
How Much Does Fathom Cost?
Before getting into the cost of Fathom Analytics, it’s important to note something true of technology and software: If you are not paying for the product, then you are the product.
While Google Analytics might be free to use, there is an expense, which can sometimes be far greater than what you spend. Not only can it be challenging to use, Google Analytics tracks and stores personal information about your website visitors. That’s not good.
Fathom offers three main tiers of pricing—all of which include a 7-day free trial period and allow you to use it on unlimited websites.
- $14/month – 100,000 page views per month
- $24/month – 200,000 page views per month
- $34/month – 400,000 page views per month
If you have more than 400,000 page views, Fathom’s price is fair. If you have more than 2 million page views, you should contact them.
Fathom Analytics Affiliate Program
As is the case with most tools out there, Fathom offers an affiliate program—which is instantly available to its customers. Non-customers can also sign up.
Fathom pays a 25% lifetime commission to you for each referral you send. If your affiliate link generates a $34/month transaction, you’ll receive $8.50/month for as long as they are a customer.
Additionally, the paying customer you refer will receive $10 off of their first invoice. That’s quite generous.
Why Use Fathom Analytics
Aside from being a simple, lightweight, privacy-first alternative to Google Analytics, Fathom just works—no training required.
Implementing Fathom Analytics code is easy and won’t slow down your website. It resides on a secure, redundant cloud consisting of on-demand, auto-scaling servers, and a super-fast CDN. Ka-chow!
Another great feature that is available with Fathom is site sharing, which offers three options for viewing metrics:
- Viewable by you
- Viewable by anyone with a password
- Viewable by everyone
As previously mentioned, customers can use Fathom on unlimited websites, which means customers can install on as many websites or properties as they wish. I am currently taking advantage of this.
In full disclosure, I’ve been following Paul Jarvis for years. He is a co-founder of Fathom Analytics, and I was an avid reader of his Sunday newsletter.
While I generally trust products and services created by people I consider friends, I only recommend ones that I personally use.
Fathom Analytics falls into this category, which means if you want website tracking that is easy to use and focused on privacy, I highly suggest giving it a look. You won’t regret it.
As a reminder, they offer a 7-day free trial period.
