I have been designing WordPress websites since 2006. White space and typography are two elements that occupy much of my obsession, and when done right, set the table for an intoxicating experience.
An abundance of beautiful typefaces, many of which are available at foundries such as Atipo Foundry, Commercial Type, and Lineto. As impressive as these are, they cost money and require user licenses.
As someone responsible for creating digital products consumed by the masses, I have only a few options for packaging fonts. Google Fonts are free and open source, so choosing them is convenient.
Historically, the Google Fonts selection has always felt mediocre. Roboto, Open Sans, and Lato are among the most popular and decent, but they are ubiquitous, and we see them everywhere.
The Rise of Google Fonts
Within the past year or so, things have changed. The quality and uniqueness of new fonts have increased significantly. Google has upped its game and is now a viable source for font selection.
Here are three newly released fonts that I love and often use:
1. Outfit Font
